Holy Ten a Free Man as State Withdraws Rape Charges

Holy Ten a Free Man as State Withdraws Rape Charges

In short

  • The State has withdrawn rape charges against Holy Ten, citing insufficient evidence to sustain a trial.
By Simba Zimunya

Zimbabwean hip-hop star Mukudzei Chitsama, popularly known as Holy Ten, is no longer facing rape charges after the State withdrew the case, citing insufficient evidence to sustain a trial.

The development brings a major turn in the legal matter that had attracted widespread public attention and sparked debate across social media.

The prosecution reportedly decided to withdraw the charges after determining that the available evidence was insufficient to proceed with a trial.

Holy Ten had been facing allegations involving a 14-year-old girl. He had previously appeared before the Harare Regional Magistrates Court as investigations continued, with the matter last scheduled to return to court on November 5, 2026.

Why it matters

The case highlights the distinction between a prosecution decision and a court finding.

The State's decision to withdraw the charges marks a significant development in the case. However, the withdrawal should not be confused with a court finding on the truth or falsity of the original allegations.

The case had generated considerable public interest because of the musician's prominence in Zimbabwe's hip-hop industry.

Further details surrounding the withdrawal, including the formal court proceedings, are awaited.
